Paris Travel Guide Books

Paris Travel GuideEyewitness Travel Guides: Paris
This is my favorite Paris guide, with a brief history of the city is followed by "Paris at a Glance" featuring the best museums, churches and parks; "Paris Through the Year," a description of the seasons; and "A River View of Paris" which takes the reader on a tour along the Seine. The guide then takes you through the city district by district. The "Travelers Needs" section includes extensive information about restaurants, hotels, shopping venues, entertainment opportunities and special activities for children. The "Survival Guide" gives practical information about getting into and out of Paris, banking and postal services, safety, transportation, and more. The Eyewitness book even has simple French phrases in the back that I found very useful. You could not own a better book.

Frommer's Paris 2000
For many travelers, the City of Light is in a class by itself--no other destination has quite the romance and cachet of Paris. This guide has made an effort to keep up with this constantly changing city. Look for all-new shopping and nightlife in this edition, plus a wide selection of the latest, hottest restaurants. And of course, there's a complete sightseeing guide that puts the city at your fingertips--with tips for first-time travelers and discoveries that will surprise you even if you already know and love Paris.

Michelin Green Tourist Guide: Paris
Discover Paris with this bestselling title in the Michelin Green Guide collection. Fully revised and specially adapted for the English-speaking visitor, this handy edition is your indispensable guide to the French capital. Includes descriptions of over 500 sights, more than 110 color photos, and over 80 detailed maps (including one for the Louvre). I wouldn't recommend visiting Paris without it, no matter how well you may think you know the city.

Paris Tourist GuideAccess Paris (2000)
This book is great for planning and dreaming, but it's an absolute must-have when you're THERE. ACCESS Paris is arranged by neighborhood so travelers can see at a glance where they are and what is around them. This guide has a first-rate design and extremely reliable reviews. It is lightweight, compact, and extremely easy to use when you're walking around the city looking for the coolest restaurants, sights, and those out-of-the-way places that make you feel less a tourist and more a traveler.

Paris GuideRick Steves' Paris 2001 (Publication date: March 2001)
Rick Steve weeds through the endless possibilities Paris has to offer and gives you his personal recommendations in an honest and entertaining style. He highlights the best local sights and activities, friendly places to eat and sleep, suggested day plans and itineraries that mix the famous and not-so-famous, and clear transportation instructions that make it easy to get anywhere by car, train, or foot. Includes walking tours of the Champs-Elysees and Montmartre. "For wannabe-experienced urban/urbane explorers: Rick Steves' friendly, funny Back Door guides beat all pseudo-hip 'insider' guides by miles."
