Paris Travel Tips

A Procrastinator's Guide for
Planning a trip to Paris

1# - Inform yourself that you are going - Look at yourself in the mirror and say "I am going to Paris". You have to make the decision to do it. Without this you might put it off for years and years, but the sooner you go the sooner you will go again. It is a matter of overcoming inertia. A decision to do it is the main step, after that it is just a matter to make all the parts come together. No matter what your financial circumstances are, YOU CAN DO IT. It is just a matter of how long it will take to get ready.

#2 - Get your passport -  before you do anything get a passport long in advance. They are good for years and easy to renew. (just don't forget where you put it.)

#3 - save your money - a trip to Paris costs money but maybe not as much as you think. You can go on a tour or just grab a flight and book a room or apartment ahead but depending on your budget, you can begin saving your money by the month only for your trip. As you know the cost of things, you can decide not to order that pizza and put the money away for your louvre museum admission ticket.

#4 - start learning french - get yourself 'a learn in your car' French language program and play the tapes over and over until you understand them. A lot of the learning will be relatively passive using this style so you can play the tapes or CDs almost any time.

#5 - Research - while your saving money research where to stay, keep track of the changing cost of tickets, understand the on and off seasons and figure out the things you want to see and the places you want to go. Study the history. All of these things are what make the trip rich in value. If you have special interests like art or theater or whatever, you can line up meaningful walking tours or reserve tickets to special events

#6 - collect your travel gear - This would include laying out your luggage, buying your accessories, having the right clothes and shoes, a good travel book, etc. This way when you get around to your trip you all ready clear what needs to happen and you are well prepared. It also helps to focus your mind on the practicalities of the trip and allows you to work out all the details without any stress. Don't forget to buy yourself a journal

#7 - buy your ticket - When your pretty clear about what you want and when you can do it get your ticket. If you buy your ticket you will definitely be going. Once you have a ticket you can plan every detail, how long you will be there, where you are flying in and out from become fixed and all other details become easy to organize because you are working within a clear set of limitations.

#8 - get ready and go.
